Steven M. Thaxton has been the Executive Director of First 5 El Dorado Children and Families Commission since April of 2000. Professional trained and credentialed in early childhood education and psychology, Steven has worked with young children and families for over twenty-five years. He has been a teacher of infant and toddlers, provided teacher training programs and as a school district administrator for early care and education programs, promoted the development of inclusion programs for young children with disabilities into non-special education settings. He has developed and implemented successful parenting programs, established diverse community based service programs and promoted health and mental health care for young children. He serves on boards, advisory committees, researches and publishes articles on early care and education. Dr. Thaxton teaches a variety of courses in psychology and early care and education at the community college. California credentials include Early Childhood Education, Specialist, Administrative and Community College. Dr. Thaxton received his undergraduate degree in Illinois and graduate degrees in California. He has three children and two granddaughters and has resided in the Sacramento area since 1990. He is the author of “Before Bonding and Quality Time”. A novel published in 2006, and "4 Men On A Cruise, Hola" published in 2007. |
